Question

Help answer this question below.

I grew up in Church and was always taught that it is wrong to drink alcohol. When I read the Bible it says "be not drunk with wine" it does not say not to drink. What do you think?

I think you are just trying to find a way to find a reason to get drunk. Pleasure lasts only for a moment, hangovers last longer.

You are correct. There is no biblical prohibition on alcohol, only drunkenness. +4

Drinking in moderation, not to get drunk, is perfectly acceptable.

I think it's curious you posted this in the "Animal rights advocacy" catagory!

But you are right about what the Bible says and does not say about alcohol.

It doesn't say anything about beer, does it? :D

Ok Seriously, I don't think drinking is bad, as long as you don't overdo it.

Those who say the that drinking alcohol is a sin have never learned to read. The Bible is quite clear that "wine is the gift of God that gladdens the heart of man". The Hebrew and Greek are even clearer: all the ridiculous claims that they drank grape juice fall flat before the clear and undeniable meaning of Scripture, and are only spewed by the ignorant and bigoted foisting their own prejudices on the text.

And actually, in the Hebrew and Greek the point is not to be a drunkard - that is a habitual and chronic drunk who neglects his duties for drink. The Bible was all in favor of getting rip-roaring, falling-down drunk when you had something to really celebrate.

Religious sects are characterized more for what they forbid rather than what they permit.

I have always found it strange that certain branches forbid things like drinking, dancing, parties, modern tools, short pant for men and women, even non-religious music. It seems as if there isn't enough guilt in mainstream christian religions for some people.

I you allow your branch of a religion to severely restrict you, you deserve the unhappy result. You have no right whatsoever to try to impose your restrictions on others.
