    Would you like to?

If you drink milk regularly, you don't have to stop just because you are breastfeeding, unless you have reason to think your baby has reacted badly to it.

If you don't like to drink milk (like me) just be sure you get enough calcium and vitamin D in your diet, in fact, make sure you get enough of everything, all the vitamins that go into your body will be directed to your brestmilk first, so it's important to make sure your getting enough for YOUR body as well.

    Good job on breastfeeding!!

You need to eat a healthy, balanced diet while breastfeeding, and that includes dairy products, such as milk. If you have a milk allergy, then you would obviously not drink milk just because you are breastfeeding. However, if you are normally a milk drinker, keep drinking it. It doesn't affect the quality of your breastmilk, but your bones will thank you.

Drinking cow's milk will not improve the quality of the breast milk. In fact, due to bovine growth hormone, it might be safer not to drink it. Some of the organic nut milks could be a good substitute while breastfeeding, like almond milk.

The only time you might want to consider excluding cow's milk from your diet is if your baby apperas to have colic or possibly has developed a severe rash. In some cases, this is due to the baby being sensitive to cow's milk. But then you really have to exclude all dairy products, including any small amounts of milk powder in some foods. And remember that it can take weeks before you notice any improvement in your baby.

Also check with your baby's health care provider if he/she thinks this will help your baby.

you should take calcium tablets at least, but, if you do not normally drink milk, I would be hesitant to drink lots of it at once, as, as debsmooth has pointed out, your baby may react to it. I know a friend who could not even eat dairy milk choc during lactating, as her baby reacted terribly.

If you have a newborn it might cause a reaction. Try it out and if no rash develops on your baby's bum then it's probably fine. When they are very new babies, things can affect them in your diet but it does not happen every time with every baby. Best of all, their systems do toughen up from exposure to the microbes in your milk. My dd could not tolerate it when I ate cruciferous veggies when she was under a month-old but I tried it again when she was two months old and no problem. She got gas and a rash from it the first time.

Absolutely. Breatfeeding deprives yoru body of important vitamins & minerals which you pass on to your baby. You should also eat peanut butter for protein. If you have only been breast feeding for a short time, you should continue taking your prenatal vitamins that your OB/GYN was having you take while pregnant.

You have to be really careful with your diet while breastfeeding. My son had a milk allergy and a strawberry allergy...he'd get really bad reflux after I nursed him and ate those things.

The reason they tell you not to give babies milk before 1 year, is that the solute levels are to much for the babies kidneys.

Your breast milk is perfect for you and your baby.

Its got your seal of aproval!
