Question

Help answer this question below.

My 8 month old lab/pit mix has been favoring her right hind leg. She doesn't seem to be in pain. Still runs/jumps/plays. And she doesn't always limp on it. Her toenails are not broken, nothing in her paws, no swelling, no crying. What could be wrong?

It might just have pulled the ligament, its common in dogs especially young ones,as they play really rough many times...it will go away by time

We had a similar problem with our 7 month old sheltie/german shepherd, the vet thought it may be a pulled ligament but when it didn't get better we took her back and discovered hip dysplasia, level three, in both hips! they weren't looking for it in a dog this young with a limp on one side. They figure that a minor injury triggered it, and it would settle down until she got older. We have had her on glucosamine/condroitin/MSM for a year now and she is doing great... so we just enjoy our tme with her until it gets worse. Please consider if your dogs breeds are prone to dysplasia and consider it... If it is dysplasia you may want to restrict certain activities to reduce wear.

My 2 yr old chihuahua has the same problem. or... not really a problem. it just looks funny. I asked my vet and she said that unless she appears to be in pain, i shouldnt worry about it.

I am usure what the problem may be, but I have a 2 year old pit/lab/shar pei cross with the exact same problem that you described (even the same leg).
Upon taking him to the vet about a year ago, they said they couldn't find any thing wrong and therefore are assuming that it is a pulled ligament in the leg. They said that this issue may never go away since it is impossible to keep the dog off his leg to let it properly heal.
I am not sure if I buy that explanation, however the dog seems to be doing just fine and has been like this for over a year now.
