Help answer this question below.

I have the opportunity to go on my first vacation. However, I'm 18 and have never been on a plane. I have an anxiety disorder, and am severely phobic of vomiting and roller coasters. So I'm TERRIFIED! Can someone tell me what its HONESTLY like on a plane?

Well, when the plane first takes off, you are pressed into your seat by that rapid acceleration. One time, a luggage bin opened and some stuff fell on some people's heads. At that moment, there was a brief panic ("Oh no! The plane's breaking apart! We're all gonna DIE!"), but once the plane was in the air, everyone laughed about it.

During the flight, the engines are noisy, if that bothers you.

The plane will gently dip and sway as it flies. A bigger plane like a 747 not so much. An Airbus more so. Sometimes thuis "turbulence" will get rather severe, and the pilot will ask eveyone to return to their seats and buckle up. It can be scary the first time it happens, the plane bucks and jerks around like a bucking bronco (yes even a big 747), but planes are built to handle it.

During the flight, you'll hear various mechanical noises of the plane's systems.

Sometimes there ARE real emergencies. Like, an engine fails, or the cabin loses pressure and you have to breathe though that face thing like an astronaut, and so they have to land at the nearest airport and put you on a different plane.

During landing, you'll feel the plane hit the ground. Some pilots can land a plane so smoothly that you won't feel a thing, other times it'll hit pretty hard and jar you. Passengers will often clap (especially on international flights) after a smooth landing.

    Enjoy your flight!

Don't worry, flying is nothing like a roller coaster.

The take off and the landing are a bit weird if you've never been in a plane before. I recommend taking a bottle of water with you to drink, and some gum to chew during the take off and the landing.

During the take off and the landing, sometimes you might feel an odd sensation in your ears, like popping. It doesn't hurt, it just feels strange. I find that chewing gum helps this.

As for the rest of the flight... it feels like you're sitting in your living room. You can close the shade on the window of the plane and you won't even know that you're flying. If you hit some turbulence, you might feel a slight 'bump', like if you ran over a speed-bump on the road.

Travelling by plane is very safe. If you have an anxiety disorder I presume you are receiving medical care for it and it is under control, if not then you need to talk to your doctor before going on the flight. If it is a long flight, try and get some sleep as this will make the time go by faster. Try and get an aisle seat so if you need to go to the bathroom you can get out quickly, also try and get a seat as near to the front of the plane as any turbulence will be felt more at the back of the plane and may make you feel ill.

I can't go on roller coasters or roundabouts because they make me vomit, but I fly frequently and have never felt the slightest bit ill on a plane.

Take off is quite exciting, but after that it's just boring until you land, when you feel a bit of a bump as the wheels touch down.

Instead of a roller coaster, think more of a small but speedy elevator. Keep busy with a book and/or ipod. They do have in flight "radio" and may sell you headphones. Bring your own.

The only thing new for you will be take-off and landing. Take-off is really fun cause of the speed. Landing is cool cause of the sudden speed reduction.

I would bring something to keep you rmind busy like a book. If you are by a window, close it and read on. You won't even notice your in the air. :) Good Luck!

Taking off is just like going fast in a car, then your seat tips up and stays that way for a little while.

Then when they put the seatbelt signs off it's like being in a pretty rubbish and very cramped cafe.

Landing just involves you putting your belt back on and a slight bump when you actually land.

    That's about it. =)

The take off isn't that bad, after the take off its like ur on a bus, i know how u feel i have anxiety too, n i hate being on a plane for a long time. What i do is i get up to the bathroom every 20 mins or so (depends on how long the flight is) n ill go wash my face off. It feels good to get up too. Try to bring a laptop or a mp3 player, and listen to your fav, music or watch a movie,, Ull be just fine!! :)

The two answers here are pretty good I think.

Flying isn't a thing like a roller coaster. The acceleration on take off is brief and descents are quite gentle.

Put the trip in perspective please? You are safer flying than in a car. You will be flying for a short time right? That's worth it to arrive at your destination.

Besides, isn't it important to meet and conquer your fears?

Life is short...don't let fear rule you!

It's generally safe, but it can be like a big crashing ball of fire if the pilot drinks or falls asleep in the cockpit.
