I would suggest a G string, or commando (no underwear). I assume you would be wearing a full body leotard, like for a wrestler or a ballerina? If you wear a thong, there is fabric that can be seen through the leotard, and the same goes for a G string, but less so. If you go commando, well that would be obvious as to what would happen... My suggestion is to go for a seamless, cotton G string. If you really want some coverage, go with a seamless cotton thong instead... you're less likely to be noticed this way.

the same companies that make leotards make "briefs" that do not ride and are cut to not show under a leo. you can usually find them in all the same colors as leotards so they aren't embarrassing if they do happen to peek out. when i was a coach i always told my gymnasts that these were not "panties" so they didn't have to worry if they showed and i'd rather see their briefs than their bum.

Most people do not wear underwear underneath a leo. Think of a leotard like a swim suit. You wouldn't wear underwear underneath that, so why under a leo?

If you're a young gymnast, it doesn't really matter what you wear. But once you hit puberty, thats when it becomes difficult and awkward. Or embarrassing IMO.

i would say not to wear any. leotards are tight enough that pretty much anything shows. i used to dance ballet, tap and jazz and i did gymnastics, and both my instructors actually didn't allow us to wear underwear because it showed and looked bad.

I have seen women wear underwear underneath their bathing suits, so wearing it underneath leotards should be okay.

Well my 9yo daughter doesn't wear anything under her leotard, no bra (too young, does not need one yet), no panties. As a matter of fact, all she wears to gymnastics class is her leotard, no shoes, no socks and no shorts. She usually goes in her barefeet (as she does most of the time after school), about the only thing she has to keep track of his her cell phone to call me if she needs to be picked up at a different time. She loves gymnastics.

Briefs are a definite yes, if your leotard rides up it is a definite bad look. Go online and you can find cheap usually skin colour ones that are almost invisible. Or if you do not want to buy the real ones and have to wait, go into your local underwear store and buy some seam free skin colour undies

I always found it best to not wear any underwear besides a bra (sports bras can look awful under leotards, and I found a regular, non padded or wired, bra with skinny straps to be fine since the leotard holds it all in anyway), and actually for dance exams we weren't allowed to wear underwear at all anyway - because it will always show to some degree.
