Guess what?
In 1996, all cars were required to be OBD-2 compliant vehicles, and in OBD-2 compliant vehicles you cannot make the check engine light flash out the codes like like you used to with the older OBD-1 computer systems. You MUST use a code reader.
However, there is some good news:
You can go to any AutoZone or Advance Auto parts stores and they will read the codes out for you for free. It only takes a few minutes.
Other parts stores probably offer this service for free as well. Call your favorite local stores and ask them.
