I know educated folks but most so-called scholars are fools who love the sound of their own voices. If there were a scholar in the room he/she would not be noticed.

I don't know if "rejoice" would be the correct word. Maybe "be grateful" would be more nearly the truth. I know one scholar...my son. How many do you know?

Once I had a postgraduate student who was carrying out experiments to test a mathematical model of animal behaviour that I had developed. It was to do with the way ants search for food. She kept messing up the experiments. The ants did some of the things that my model predicted but there were some inconsistent results obviously caused by her incompetence in the laboratory. So I made her check everything, double-check everything, and repeat the experments. She did so and she got the same anomalous results. Then one morning while driving to work I realised that my expectation was mistaken. The experiments produced what I ought to have expected but didn't. I think this was my most important discovery of my career. Important too because my student persistently found the data that disconfirmed my expectations. It would have been easier for her to have changed direction, undertaken different experiments, but she knew she was right and stuck by her opinion. She knew she was right and she was: I knew I was right and I wasn't.
