Why? because your life partner/spouse/so whatever can be hurt deeply by your having an affair.
Now there are couples that have 'open' relationships, ones where both have sex with other people. They have an understanding of the difference between sex and love.
However, this is a two way street, both partners agree to it and they discuss their intimate 'affairs' openly and honestly.
If you have that then by all means indulge yourself. If your spouse does not wish this, then by all means take matters to hand (masturbate) and think 'happy thoughts' (fantasize).
