When you cut and paste a picture from a web site and save it in a file is it visibly saved as a jpg? or does it have to originally have to be a jpg to show as a jpg in the file?

    If you copied and pasted it and then saved it it will have been saved in the format of the program you pasted it into. For example, if you pasted it into a Word document it will have been saved as a .doc file and if you pasted it into Photoshop it will have saved as a .psd file.

    It's much easier to right click on the original picture and elect to save it. If it is a jpeg it will save as a jpeg. Right click on any of the graphics on this page to see what options for saving are available and you will see you can only save them as gifs or bitmaps. Photographs and larger graphics are normally jpegs.

    However, just because a picture is on the web doesn't mean that it isn't copyright.
