People are only opposed to them when they are taken from unborn children. Besides, the majority of useful research has succeeded using other types of stem cells. Killing babies for them is financially sound only because it's politically backed by 'pro choice' organizations.
i think the bioethical issue is in the way they're harvested/donated but the advantages appear to outweigh the negatives especially for those suffering with Parkinsons or spinal cord injuries lol
I had stem cell replacement for my L5-s1 disk instead of bone. I healed quicker, and it was less invasive. I have no problems 7 years later. If stem cells can do something like that, they can do so much more!
Because we cannot get differentiated cells to revert to stem cells, stem cells offer us a chance to study the processes involved in it becoming another cell type. With this knowledge we can learn more about the various cells of the body, and perhaps develop genetic therapies and whatnot to cure, reverse, or halt genetic disorders.
Stem cells help regenerate skin and other organs from tissue that is genetically identical to the donor. Therefore, if the recipient is also the donor, the chance of rejection is eliminated.

You're reading Im writing a paper on why stem cells are important and why people shouldnt be opposed to it. What are some good arguments?
Comments
True, but they had to break a few eggs to make that omelet. Currently, stem cell research has advanced to the point where you can do *quite* a bit without the use of embryonic stem cells, but it took a bit of research (and a few embryos) to get to that point.
As for financially sound... given the current state of the science, your argument seems to imply that you are also against all forms of alternative energy because it's too expensive *right now*. That may not actually be true, but that is how I read that. Please enlighten me if I misinterpreted that.
Besides, once an embryo undergoes enough cell differentiation to actually become a fetus, they are pretty much useless for that sort of research, so basically it all boils down to when you believe life actually begins.
Of course, that's jsut my take. You are entitled to your views.
