Question

Help answer this question below.

Where I work, a woman pilfered some Sodium azide and used it to commit suicide. Afterward, the administration went around and collected all azide from the labs. Was it necessary, or was it a typical knee-jerk reaction to an isolated incident?

Be glad that person didn't commit suicide by swallowing a roll of toilet paper.

Well depends much on how one defines "necessary". For sure it was not necessary it preventing the death in the first place and no one will ever know if it prevents another, but some may think it was so from the human need to do something - the showing of some action being taken. My own opinion is that humans as a whole are very reactive after the fact, not proactive; many if not most laws, rules, guidelines come about because of an incident - betting it will never change. Short reply; knee-jerk. +
