She sort of said it right, but you just need to read the first ¶ really, it all comes down to the basics: Metta (loving-kindness) dukka(the unsatifactoryness of life; sometimes translated as suffering) How to deal with the suffering; knowing the true nature of yourself and people and things about you. The hardest thing in the world is to be human, 'cause we know can discern thru discipline and intellect that there is more. You can read a dharmma book, usually given out free, or a hardcore author like D.T. Suzuki, warning not for beginners. The only real way to learn the discipling is with real life teachers. I've been fortunate, I have a Sanga that loves me, and a wonderful Sensei, that pushes me and restrains me.
There should probably be a monastery about where you live, look it up, ignore the hocus-pocus for a while and just learn the techniques. You have all the time in the world, that is until the Sun goes nova and obliterates everything, but you'd have to be awful good to get that far. The revered founder of my monastery is quite mad. but he's full of heart, he often says the way people treat each other makes him sick. It's Dhamma-Vinaya--discipline of truth, or discipline and truth, or skillful use of truth...or about getting laid during a retreat. Yes examine the teacher carefully; some are great.
