No disrespect to anyone, but someone once told me, "If you are ever able to describe or define love to someone else, then you DON'T KNOW what love is."

I agree with that assessment; love is impossible to define or explain, lexicographers and psychologists be damned.

I would say love is something permanent or at least
needs severe measures to "remove". 'Like' can be quite
easily erased. Though 'love' might stem from 'liking'.
And You might 'like' someone more, because of the 'love'.
    .
In my definition You can 'love' someone, but not
'like' the person. I.e. You 'love' the person, because
You don't want anything bad happen to the person
and would like the person to be happy.
    .
Whereas 'like' seems to be connected with taking
pleasure from spending time with the person.
    .
So You could care for the person and wish them
the best, but at the same time not being able
to stand spending any time with them, because
it doesn't make you happy, nor doesn't give
pleasure... on the contrary spending time with
them might only cause destructive feelings in You.
    .
Therefore I see these as almost completely
    seperate concepts.

Like is or should be a prelude to love or love may just be lust. Like walking before running, lust is running with scissors. +5

An favorite author of mine defined "Love" as "that condition in which the welfare and happiness of another become essential to your own."

Any other positive feelings could be lumped under the term "liking."

liking is " favoring " ( a dress, person, food item).
loving is a deep compassionate caring for sentient beings.
