    Before the Civil War, many negoes were kept as "pets," and I am NOT JOKING, unfortunately.

    Likely someone is doing just that as we speak. Just because one has unlimited finances tho, is not a reason to take an otherwise wild animal from its natural surroundings and domesticize it, just to say "hey loom at me, I've got a...." I think that's cruel and no matter how much money I had, I would never consider making a pet of a wild animal.

    Not legally, but theoretically I suppose you could. Though why would you want to keep a wild animal in captivity?

    No. There are laws about which animals can be kept as pets. However, if you have unlimited finances, you could probably set up a bonafied zoo all legal like. There are some animals/birds/fish that can't even be put into a zoo.
