• I imagine most conservafags and others who are against amnesty for illegals in all conceivable situations would also want to tear down the Statue of Liberty. Best to do it soon, too, as to not confuse people and make them think that they are welcome.

• The immigrants who came via Ellis Island did so legally. Sneaking into the country illegally is a different thing. Any who came here illegally are in your category 4.

• Cowboy - I understand this point of view and don't disagree with it. However, among all kinds of criminals we have different degrees...from petty thief to kleptomaniac to master thief to the Enron board of directors, and each has their own category of consequence and some get "amnesty" in the form of paying fines or community service. I merely suggest that we look at this group with similar eyes and give amnesty where amnesty is due. That would also make it easier to prosecute the true criminals.

• Very logical, I can surely understand that. The illegals have overwhelmed the school systems, medical systems, and government budgets in some states. They need to at least NOT be rewarded for their criminal behavior, not matter the degree. They should be made to return to their native country and attempt to come to the U.S. legally. I also do not believe a child born to someone not a citizen should be a citizen. That is not what was meant in the Constitution.

• Thus we come to the crux of the difficulty our public leaders have in passing any significant bills regarding the subject. Different interpretations as to what was meant in the Constitution. They do have their job cut out for them. Thanks for an interesting discussion. ^_^
