    Ridiculous

Absolutely not. People need to take responsibility for themselves and their children instead of having the government play mommy and daddy.

Some are already, at least where I live. I just think it would be unfair to ban all of them, especially like sparklers that young kids can enjoy that are fairly safe.

Accidents happen and if you constantly make laws trying to protect people from themselves it doesn't help anyone. The majority of people are responsible, injuries happen and people make mistakes.

Fireworks are a very safe & exciting way for us in the US to celebrate our independance. People must be responsible for their actions. The trouble I see is from the "Jackass" generation. Terriost are not going to use fireworks to destroy anything, espically since we are doing it to our selves. FXMike

No. Fireworks are good fun, if you take the necessary precautions or just to drunk to care whether you blow yourself up or not.

No, they should not be banned. This is a ridiculous overstepping of government power. Sure, they may cause injury of fire, but this is not their purpose. Cigarettes can cause fires that cold spread to other properties, but they should never be banned from use on private property. Bricks can break windows, should we ban those too? Perhaps we should ban hammers, I mean, they can hurt people too! Why is all this water still legal? Have you seen how many people are drowned each year?! See how crazy things can get when the government forces laws like this on the people? This is why we live in a republic (no, we are NOT a democracy, the framers of the constitution were very careful to make sure that we were not a democracy). The people make the decision with a small government, not the government telling the people what they can and can't do to keep themselves safe.

I think in some areas they should be banned. We used to live in a super fire prone area where most of the county was under ban from using fireworks. I lived in one of two very small towns where they could legally sell them. But the restrictions on where you could use them safely meant nothing to people. Every 4th of July we lived in fear of what part of the county was going to go up in flames. And it usually did or maybe a few days later with leftover fireworks. And yes they were the 'safe and sane fireworks' that are supposed to be safe. But when ever a disk or plow going over a rocky field is enough to make a spark that starts a huge field fire, you can't even use safe and sane fireworks. And they did prosecute people and it didnt' have any affect. It seemed only sensible to ban them But because they were used by one school and one church as fundraisers, they were never banned.

considering how many people purchase illegal fireworks and how stupid the average person is, in combination with the amount of fireworks-related injuries every year. yes. yes they should. I can't say it would do any good, although law enforcement could fine people that get injured with these illegal items.

No, they shouldn't. I still love fireworks and am happy to live in a state where we can still buy and use them.

No!!!!The kids love fireworks, and the ADULT men get to play with fire!!! I do wish people would use them alittle more safe. And they should ALL be in child proof containers.

I don't think they should be banned in general for public use. I think their should be more warnings, proof of age to purchase them, and it should be against the law to light them when intoxicated, only to be lit within a sports oval or field etc.

Kids and/or alcohol are the 2 main reasons accidents happen. The other is carelesness by lighting them in areas likely to easily catch fire from embers and sparks.

On the other hand, many hundreds of thousands of dollars have been accidently torched in the way of property fires... all around the world; even at "safe professional" displays.

I know I would not accidently set fire to a property this way but not everyone thinks like me.

    Is it worth the risk?
