Governments should ignore the idea of God altogether, yes. That's a religious idea, it has no place in public policy.

Separation of church and state is an open concept that the political left (statist rather than religious populist) uses to try to marginalize any reference to mystical religion in affairs of State. We can argue about the problems of mysticism in a rational society all day long. But the phrase "separation of church and state" has been misused for decades in the US. The American founders did not discuss separation of church and state in the modern context. They simply agreed that the Federal Government should/would not establish a church that would challenge State churches, which existed when the constitution was framed. No body ever imagined that the government should/would deny or affirm the existence of God. This was determined to be an individual decision.

The main problem with that question:

    Which one?

    Which God?

    Pick one.

Then I'll be more able to answer.

Separation of Church and state was put into place so that Government could not dictate how people chose to Worship God. there are alot of countries that outlaw worshipping God and they imprisoned and even murdered people for having a Bible or for worshipping God. and in most things satan has tooken things that were meant for Good and turned it into something evil.
