How do I train my 8 month old puppy (chihuahua)? We just got him and the last owner didn't train him.....I've never had to train a puppy....plus we don't have a gate or anything so we can't just put him outside.

The good news is that while this is a very small breed dog, his bladder is a lot bigger than it would have been when he was only 8 or 10 WEEKS old....so that's great...

Also you DO NOT WANT to just let him out, even if you did have a fenced in yard.....THAT TRAINS NOTHING!

So...I think you will do a great job, because part of the trick is that you are supposed to TAKE HIM OUTSIDE, ON LEAD...so you can teach him WHY we are taking this short little trip outside!

YOU ARE SET UP FOR SUCCESS! (and you didn't even know it!) <wink>

Potty 101 is the training manual (several pages only) that I finally wrote up a few years ago for my clients who hire me to help them train their puppies and dogs...rather than just tell them all over and over what to do...I wrote it all down so they could take it home with them as part of what they get when they pay me to help them. IF you email me...then I will have your email address and I can send YOU a copy of it to use at home...for FREE. Potty 101 teaches YOU how to teach your puppy WHY going outside to potty is a wonderful and fun idea so that your puppy learns to make this fun "game" a good habit. It also helps you to NOT make common mistake we can all make that would make training your puppy more work and less successful.
