There are many more interesting restaurants and coffee shops in SE, from Hawthorne up to Fremont. Great neighborhoods to just walk a couple miles and see stuff.
I most enjoy the huge trees that overhang the neighborhood roads, and how folks keep the big-box or national franchise stores out (mostly). It really feels like mom-and-pop neighborhood stuff going on, and people are outgoing and friendly.
IM in salem. i like it better here. not nearly as busy :p
I preferred living in the SW Beaverton/Hillsboro.
With the exception of the hawthorne district, the east side is trashy. I would rather live somewhere on the west side, it's generally a better part of town.
nw! although, i have to admit the hawthorne district is kind of fun (se). i've lived in sw before & i liked that as well. mostly, i wouldn't want to live in ne. there's some neat houses there, but the crime is kind of bad...
I kind of like NW. It's got a bunch of nice houses, but it's expensive as all hell. And I am not going to PSU, so there's no reason for me to think of the streetcar as an advantage. SW looks pretty crappy, but I have only been to a couple houses there. I don't know enough about SE, actually. I know nothing about SE.
Other places outside of the majority of downtown, I like the boarder where Portland meets Progress, Metzger, Scholls, and Beaverton. It's a nice little community. I've been to some houses over by Sunset High School where Beaverton meshes with Portland, not really fond of that area.
I lived in SW for my high school years, in NE for a couple years in elementary school. I liked SW better, but thats a little hard to compare since I was a lot younger in NE.
I live out in fairview, and it is really nice, and cheap, but i work out in beaverton. Not a fun drive everyday. Id love to live in NW or NE because it would be closer, and there are a lot of nice areas.
Parts of SE always appealed to me, where there is a sense of community. The thing is that the quality of neighborhoods can change from block-to-block. I grew up in Beaverton, but always hated how the the fun places were either downtown or on the east side. SW is far too suburban.
None at all! Portland is a dump and a horrible and unsafe place to live.
Sandy Oregon is east of Portland and a great little town to live in. It is a bedroom community to Portland and it sits next to Mt. Hood BEAUTIFUL......
