    "Borrowing" that turns permanent.
    "Missing" money.
They use YOUR computer to download porn.
They use YOUR computer to attack others.
They use YOUR computer and credit cards to buy things from the net.

Friends first would be best, but if you are not sure you can trust them, don't do it.

Schools put people together in dorms and some housing. Get to know that person as fast as possible, and know what you can and can't trust them with.

BE CAREFUL, though. I know a couple of guys who trusted another - a "friend" - and were burned.

If it's a friend who is the roommate, there's a good possiblity that you won't be friends much longer.

As I am autistic, having a room mate would be like a vision of hell. Must have total privacy to survive. +2

There are so many things that can go wrong. Just make sure to establish the rules up front with each other. Also, when it comes to expenses, make sure to have an agreement between you two in writing stating how the expenses get paid.

I'm a boy and i had a roommate once and i'm gonna tell you the problems i had with him..
    1. He snores and it drives me crazy
    2. Typical problem,he's messy and never cleaned his stuff.. socks, underpants and who knows what scattered everywhere.. And he turned the kitchen into a dumpster just to cook an instant noodle
    3. He's a genuine pervert.. He kept his you-know-what everywhere and always ask me to "join" him.. He even tried to harass me,which makes him kinda gay
    4. He's a damn party animal.. At weekends,he'd invite his gang and thrash the place.. I'm a good kid and they tried to make me drink alcohol and smoke..
    5. He's careless.. Walks out the door without closing it though no one's inside..
    6. He's noisy and lazy.. copies my homework and disturbs me when he couldn't sleep.. He even opened my drawers without my permission and look around my stuffs..
    7. last but not least...He's stinky

I think that both the pros and cons can be staggering!

I've had roommates that were a total joy, better than family...totally accountable, generous, clean, did not mess with my personal things, took good care of the things they were allowed to use (kitchen stuff, towels, furniture) Shared their food, replaced any of my food they ate in a timely manner...or shared the shopping (we made a list and they either shopped or pitched in money when I shopped) We threw parties together, or BBQ where we both put up the money to buy the food, and we both cooked and cleaned before and after....

THESE roommates looked after me if I was sick, and I looked after them if they got sick, they came running if my car broke down, and I did the same for them...they were GREAT!

Then I've had one, at least, that was such a pain in the ass, I had to get my landlord to help me kick her ass out! I also let her overhear me saying I would use her tooth brush to clean the toilet, and I removed everything she had borrowed from me, including the light-bulb from her room....SHE had indicated that I might come home to find my dog or cat missing....and that was it for me....her ire was due to wanting to borrow MORE money from me, not having her share of the rent....(I said no to borrowing more money from me) AND lastly because her boy friend had indicated he liked me more than her...she was HIGH COST, I was not, had a good job, and was USUALLY... EASY GOING!....
