<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Eliminates Chlorine
Tap water is treated with various substances such as chlorine and fluorides to make it suitable for human consumption, but some of these substances may be harmful to sensitive plants. Aged water is tap water that is left to stand overnight or for several days. According to the North Dakota State University Agriculture and University Extension, allowing tap water to age overnight in a container releases most of the chlorine gas.
On the Other: Fluoride Toxicity
Aging does nothing to eliminate fluoride or sodium from water. Fluoride toxicity is a common problem with houseplants and can be noted by the yellow or brown tips on the leaves.
Bottom Line
Watering plants with aged water is better than watering with tap water that comes straight from the faucet because it allows the chlorine gases to neutralize. But it may not be the best solution because it does not eliminate fluoride or sodium. The University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources website states that when you are in doubt, use bottled or distilled water instead.
