However practical your bathroom is for the necessities of life, it has a romantic side too. Just like you can go for a drive in the country to get away from the pressures of city life, you can go to your bathroom for a momentary escape from the everyday stresses of home life. There you indulge in bubble baths or long showers or even prolong your pit-stops in order to regroup and order your thoughts for the day. Whether your bathroom is in the country or city, follow these steps to decorate it country-style.

Plumbing Fixtures

Choosing the right plumbing fixtures is the main way to get a fresh country look for your bathroom. An old-fashioned claw-foot bathtub combines a vintage country look with a hint of luxury. Go for a real antique tub or choose a new claw-foot tub made from either acrylic or cast iron. Elizabeth Roehrig from Country Living recommends adding color to your country bathroom by painting the exterior of your claw-foot tub (see Reference 1). Consider a shaker style vanity for your sink area. Choose distressed wood for antique appeal and opt for porcelain rather than chrome fixtures (see Reference 2).

Window Treatments

Bring as much natural sunlight as possible into your country bathroom. Choose light-colored and sheer window treatments or go with the simple look of white mini-blinds. If your bathroom window is located in such a way that your privacy is not obstructed, you might opt for no window treatment at all. If privacy is a concern, consider choosing beveled glass. It will obstruct the view into your bathroom while letting the natural sunshine come in.

Flooring

Flooring in any bathroom needs to be easy to clean and maintain. It also must be durable enough to combat the ills of overflowing toilets and tubs. Consider wood laminate to add a rustic charm to your bathroom. If the wood look is a little too dark for your tastes, consider solid or checkered tile. Choose soft bath rugs--lighter color shades for wood laminate floors and darker shades for light-colored tile.

Accent Decor

For country accents, think of nature. Flowers, vines and birds make delightful accent pieces for your bathroom. Consider a solid color shower curtain with floral embroidery or even a bird motif. Place ceramic birds in a real bird's nest in the corner of the vanity. Let the sunlight dance through colored vases in your window sill. A miniature loaf pan filled with potpourri pays a tribute to country gardens while it creates a pleasant aroma.
