Mounts act as adjustment points for certain parts of a vehicle, as well as keeping noises and/or vibration from getting to the vehicle's occupants when driving. A transmission mount is such a component.
Alignment Function
Transmission mounts establish proper alignment in standard shift and clutch linkages.
Working With Other Mounts
Transmission mounts also work with engine mounts. This collaboration is to control torque and vibration in the drive line, as well as reducing the vibration transmitted to the chassis.
Composition
Transmission mounts usually have a circular or T-shape, and can be made of rubber or metal.
Bad Transmission Mounts
When transmission mounts go bad, vehicle vibration increases. Also, universal joint yokes and cross pieces would suffer accelerated wear.
Significance
Transmission mounts are key components of mounting the drivetrain in a vehicle. It gives the engine and transmission assembly its rear support, as well as providing the ideal operating angle for the front of the automobile's driveshaft.
