Everyone should be aware by now of all the health risks related to smoking, which should be enough to quit or never start. If that is not enough, consider the effects of smoking on your physical appearance--many of them can be quite evident to see.
Teeth
The tar found in cigarettes causes brown and yellow stains to appear on your teeth. It also causes bad breath and gum disease.
Wrinkles
Cigarette smoke causes blood vessels close to the skin's surface to narrow, which causes wrinkling, according to Richard D. Hurt, M.D., of the Mayo Clinic. The wrinkling is not just on your face and hands but all over your body.
Skin
Wrinkles are not the only effects of smoking on your skin. The tar and nicotine in cigarettes causes skin to become dry and take on a yellow appearance, especially fingers and hands.
Fingernails
The nicotine in cigarette smoke causes fingernails to become stained yellow. Usually the hand that holds the cigarette is most affected.
Under Eye Circles
Another one of the effects of smoking on your physical appearance is dark circles. Many times dark under eye circles are temporary due to lack of sleep. If you are a smoker, it may no longer be a temporary condition.
