The 1958 Edsel Pacer was created by the Ford Motor Co. in an attempt to compete with the Buick and Oldsmobile markets. The Edsel Pacer was a high-performance car that had been widely researched but did not do as well in the market as Ford had expected.
A Junior Size Car
According to Edsel.com, the Edsel came in two sizes and both of them were big. The Pacer, while still a large car, was in the smaller of the two groups of Edsels cars. The Edsel Pacer was described as a junior size car.

The Edsel pacer was made based on the body shell of the Ford Fairlane, according to SpeedTV.com. The Pacer was available as a two-door, four-door, a hard top, a convertible or a sedan.
The Power of a 1958 Edsel Pacer
According to SpeedTV.com, the Edsel Pacer came with a 303 horsepower engine that could go from zero to 60 mph in just over 10 seconds, reaching a maximum speed right around 105 mph.
Edsel Pacer Technology
According to Edsel.com, the Pacers came standard with a three-speed manual transmission--but an automatic transmission controlled by a Teletouch shifter was available as an optional feature. The Teletouch shifter used buttons found in the center of the steering wheel instead of a shifter on the floor or the steering column.
1958 New Edsel Pacer Prices
The Edsel Pacer sold new for approximately $3,000 with one of the most "gadget-laden" accessory packages available, according to Edsel.com.

According to SpeedTV.com, the current value of a 1958 Edsel Pacer is $6,000 for a sedan and $25,000 for a convertible.
