I think one need not be living in order to have a life but in order to be living, one must have a life.
We have many examples of non-living things which have life, for example, life-span of furniture, 1/2 life of certain chemical, etc.
Happiness. Everything that a person does almost indefinitely revolves around a feeling of happiness. We were meant to be happy, that's what I believe at least. x.x

Only texts or utterances have meaning. Life is neither a text nor an utterance and therefore has no meaning.
Your life can have whatever meaning you choose to give it. Some choose to accept a meaning that others give them, others choose to find that meaning and purpose themselves.
