Andy Warhol did later versions of his early icon paintings, some of them in negative colors. He also did a large "retrospective" painting in the 1970s that contains several of his most famous motives.
Girgio de Chirico repeated the famous metaphysical paintings of the years 1913-1918 throughout his life, There are more than 80 versions of his "Disquieting muses", for instance.
Picasso often used several stylistic elements he had developed earlier in his paintings, but he did so rather intuitively, and not as a strategy (like De Chirico or Warhol did).
