I would mention that you accidently saw this, and being concerend, "as I'm sure you would be", ask if he would show you that this is taken care of and up to date (if he claims it is).
You don't want things to get ugly for your son's sake, but I suppose you could call the police (non-emergency #) and ask if they would be able to verify this next time he is scheduled to come.
If they say yes, and he initially blows off your question, the next time he comes, gently and tactfully ask again. If he's still not willing to prove it, mention casually that you checked with the police, but you're sure neither of you want to actually get them involved.
