Screener copies can be copied. There are software programs that can strip copy-protection code off protected DVD's. Also, there's the old trick of sneaking a camera into the theater and video-recording the movie off the screen. Not very good I know, but it's been done. Anywhere along the line that a digital copy is in the production process someone can make an extra copy and sell it. If there's money to be made, someone will do it. That's why I didn't go to the theater to see "X-Men: Wolverine"; I "inadvertently" saw a bootleg copy. And because so many others had already seen the movie in advance of the theater showing, the movie did not do very well at the box office.
