How come the pope dresses up like St. Nicholas? He has everything but the beard and mustache. The clothes, the hat, the "cane", the slippers...?

    St. Nicholas was a Catholic bishop; the Pope is the Catholic bishop of Rome. It makes sense their outfits should be similar. It was Protestants who developed Santa Claus with the suit American children know and love.
