I just called a girl I know that used to be a dancer. She said she would have considered herself self employed, she received no wage from the establishment she worked at and had to give them a percentage of her income for the privilege to dance there.

In most cases she would be considered an independent contractor.

Most dancers are independent contractors, but they could be hired as employees.

will change with local law, most are regarded as contract or day (night) labor & pay a flat rate then require them to pay own taxes (yea right)so self employed would be more correct

A dancer may be an employee or may be an independent contractor.
