Ironically standing up for yourself against a verbal assault is deemed disrespect.

No because it's verbal abuse! but people get away with it because employees are in fear of loosing their job or if they complain and nothing gets done about it then the boss well pick on them even more. I would call someone outside the company and see how they can help. keep a log of everything that happens. like dates, time, what was said, who else was around.
There is no law (other than "Free Speech") that would allow (or sanction) a supervisor to do that to a subordinate.
But, that kind of stuff happens every day, nationwide, unfortunately.

I do not think anything officialy deemed abuse is legal anywhere... the issue comes in having the action deemed abuse.

Shortly, cameras will decide who gets a ticket and who doesn't. If the sign says 55, at what speed should the camera spit out a ticket?
