there are a couple dozen things that the gop is inclined to do that would improve the health care reform plan. the problem, in my opinion, is that 1,988 pages of the democratic plan is B.S. i am greatly disappointed in the democrats and they'll have to introduce about 100 elements to make the plan well rounded and solid.

- Any reform of this size is going to end up being thousands of pages by necessity. There are tons of existing laws and regulations that intersect, and each jot and tittle must be spelled out. Fail to do so, and Congress abdicates their Constitutional responsibility to write law, handing it over to the Executive to execute as they see fit.
  
  But the real work of crafting a final bill will happen in the merger of the Senate and Hose versions. That's where Republicans could play a role should they chose to do so.

- while i'm not optimistic that the republicans thru the senate - house conference will provide useful additions, you're right. it is now thru the senate and joint conferences in which something useful might be hammered out. let's pray so.

Susan Collins is one of the very few decent Republicans left. I don't think many Republicans will go with her. +5

- We will see. Best case would be that the Republicans strike a deal that gets reasonable tort reform and cost controls included and then at least a few vote for it.

I am going to have to go with the "just say no" as its been their thing for 10 months now. I would really like to see that change and have more Senators work for their constituents and put in a bill that most of the people can get behind rather then whats going on in the congress now.

Really? No way Jose. That poor lone Republican house member who stood with the Dems and voted for the health care reform because it would benefit "his people" is getting pilloried and will probably be driven out of the Republican Party for his ethical stance. That's great for the Dems...we welcome him to our side! :)
