Help answer this question below.

Could pressure at the surface be 601 hPa? I though the standard is around 1,013, so wouldn't 601 be really off? Or could it be 1,601?

    The lowest atmospheric pressure ever measured was 25.69 inches of Hg, set on Oct. 12, 1979, during Typhoon Tip in the western Pacific Ocean. 25.69 inches of mercury = 0.858488428 Pa (atm). Perhaps the observation in question was above sea level.
