The lowest atmospheric pressure ever measured was 25.69 inches of Hg, set on Oct. 12, 1979, during Typhoon Tip in the western Pacific Ocean. 25.69 inches of mercury = 0.858488428 Pa (atm). Perhaps the observation in question was above sea level.

You're reading Could pressure at the surface be 601 hPa? I though the standard is around 1,013, so wouldn't 601 be really off? Or could it be 1,601?
