Help answer this question below.
No, most do not. Of those who do, most were probably going to behave that way regardless of what profession they went into. Some people ought not have power.
.
That said, cops often use the power they legitimately have. Such use can be mistaken for rudeness, coldness and any number of other things. I am guilty of resenting the power police have myself.
.
Generally they are trying to do a good job. Most are in the job to help people and do right.
.
If being a cop has any effect on people over time it probably makes them warier and more closed-off.
Their are good cops and bad cops just like anything else! you well never get a straight answer on this because we are talking about people here.
I guess everyone is waiting for my answer, so here goes:
I have trained, road with, and denied rookie officers that i thought had even a touch of being power-hungry.
Each rookie has a 6 month probationary period where they ride with a seasoned officer. if the rookie does not meet the officers expectations, he is terminated.
I am happy to say that the vast majority of rookies and seasoned officers are not power-hungry, at least not in my department.
The Matrix is in place here and its the holy graille of The Metro Police Dept. its sets the punishment for discipline for power-hungry or bad conduct, by police officers. it is used very little in our department.
You know and i know that some bad officers slip through the cracks. thank God its very few. the public bestows a lot of trust in their police officers and that trust must never be violated. never.
If you would word the question.."Do some police officers become power mad?"..maybe I could give an answer but the word "most" would only apply to those with honorable motives, which most have. When I served in law enforcement most of us knew who the kooks were and in my department there were very..very few kooks. But name a profession that does not have kooks..just one.
Only in Massachusetts and Texas.
some do
Yep
No I think they are very commendable in coping with all the crime they have to face.
I also think they are extremely brave.
I suppose there will be some who go this way but, I have found 98% to be good people doing a very tough job. I feel if we (the public) got behind them more than we do it would make their job easier and from that we may get some warnings instead of bookings.
