Protects from small meteors. Protects from the most harmful forms of solar radiation: reduces the amount of ultraviolet to the point where you can walk about safely without getting an instant sun tan. Reduces more energetic forms of radiation. Protects from cosmic radiation. Keeps the planet in blanket of air so that the temperature remains within a few degrees or tens of degrees between dark and light side, instead of hundreds of degrees different. Provides us with stuff to breathe. Gives sufficient pressure to allow liquid water which we rely on. So without it, we're shot, dried, fried, frozen, breathless, ... and quite quite dead!
