When did mobile phones get internet connectivity?

    Mobile phones were able to access the internet once the data portion of the networks were introduced, i.e., GPRS, EDGE (on the GSM side) and XRTT and EV-DO on the CDMA side. Prior to that, you could only make voice calls and text on the voice channels. This was available in the US around 2002 for the first time. I hope this helps.
