The reason we have not accomplished that which we have set out to is because we are not fighting a war. We are letting politicians and popular opinion of other countries dictate our actions. You can't fight a war where you have imposed limits on yourself while the enemy is fighting with every tool at their disposal.

As a vet, I can assure you that this war could be won. The reason we aren't winning it is because we aren't fighting it the way it needs to be fought. We need to go in with full force and destroy the enemy. But politicians won't let us do that. We have too much buerocracy standing in our way.

Good soldiers that know who to fight aren't allowed to open fire until fired upon. We are forced to take the defensive at all times. We don't have support from our government and we don't have the proper resources provided for us to win.

It is important for people to realize that war is ugly. It is sad, tragic, and harsh. Things happen in war that change us forever. But worse than going to war is knowing that you are in a situation where your country is more concerned with looking popular to other countries like France and Germany than they are with actual victory.

Reporters are allowed in on the guise of freedom of speech. What they are really doing is spinning the war to push a more Democrat agenda. In doing this, they have severely hindered our ability to win. The enemy has the full backing of their people, their government, and their allies. That is why they have the advantage and that is why, if things don't change for us soon, they will win.

Bush didn't devote the resources to it to actually try to stabilize things while we had a chance. Appalling repetition of history, and appalling misunderstanding of... Islam, the region, just about everything... to invade Iraq.

Oddly, the US accomplishes the absolute opposite of whatever it sets out to do or claims to want to do. Look at Iraq, talk about chaos! And Afghanistan. Wherever the US goes, it distabilizes everything and leaves behing nothing but pain, suffering, misery and a bloodtrail of sorts. As for the "terrorists" that they can't bring to justice, ha! First, you need to define "terrorists." I contend the Americans are the terrorists. However, the people they're so viciously going after are anything but. Sadly, the US is now trying to do away with the very forces it created but people are entirely too stupid to realize, much less research, these issues and see how they're being duped and brainwashed.

They haven't failed, large parts of Afghanistan are secure and stable, the ethnic groups in the north of the country are enjoying a peaceful life.

I think it is much more winnable now that it was a year or 2 ago. Now we have Pakistan on board, we can up the pressure on the taliban.

The US military needs to understand what is going on over there is a Holy War. The wars overthere have been going on for thousands of years and there is never an end to such wars.

Bush involved the US military in this war under false pretense of WMD and the attacks on 9-11 all to supposidly protect oil production there. The Bush family has been good friends and business partners in oil with the Ben Laudin family for years.

People in the USA need to understand the military is fighting a Holy War between the many tribes in this whole area. The US military leaders will never understand this and will continue to loose good Americans in a war they can never win.

I entirely blame it on little Dubya wanting to finish off what daddy started in Iraq. This left the way open for the Taliban to get back in, & for Al-Qaida to fragment around the world..... thanks for that u nobjockey, Bush.

Because George W. Bu$h wanted to go after Iraq.

He wanted to outshine his daddy over Iraq. And nothing, absolutely nothing was going to get in his way to "prove" that he was better than his daddy.

Not America, not the need to capture Osama bin Laden, not his duty to the American People.

He ignored Afghanistan to pursue a fool's errand.

From : canbfrisky...I think nearly all the answers have good point's. BUT I must agree with the #1 answer when they state ..."We need to go in with full force and destroy the enemy. But politicians won't let us do that. We have too much bureaucracy standing in our way.'And it's not JUST bureaucracy - The fact is...War = money and our contractors for armaments here and the many contractors in Afghanistan are making immense amount's of coin...i.e. the longer the war- the more money to be had !

    peace-out.
