Help answer this question below.
In Windows, screen savers are part of your settings, which kick in when you log on or when the default login kicks in if you haven't set up accounts, so the Windows screen saver isn't the answer, but many computers let you set up a screen saver from the computers CMOS setup program, or else the compute might have a power management menu that can blank the screen for you.
In vista. Start> control panel> if it's in classic view, change it to" control panel home"> Appearance and personalization> under the heading "personalization", click on " change screen saver". In that window you will see a box that says ___ minutes. Change it to whatever you want. If you want it to come on sooner; say 4 min., put that in. Leave the box that says "on resume, display logon screen " unticked. Click OK. The screen saver is suppose to come on whenever you leave the mouse alone for so many minutes. If you have it set at 4 min. it will display after 4 min. regardless of what you are working on. It does not have to be your home page or just the desktop.

Something is wrong with our computer and we are having trouble turning it on. So I was tring to keep it on with a screen saver woking. If he screen blacks out, the computer freezes and it might take us more than an hour to turn the thing back on.

Keep it logged on and use the Windows screen saver. Also, I heard of a program called "always on" that you can download for free. I've never used it, but it's designed for that exact reason! It generates random activity to keep the computer alive.
