If I said, they do not come of that caliber anymore....would you know understand what I am saying?

    I would understand...although some younger readers might not...it is not always as common a term as it used to be.

    Much as the phrase..."We'll not see his LIKE here again."

    Yes, I would know what you meant, but the expression is not right. A caliber is just a size of shell and barrel. The caliber needed for the shot may vary, so the phrase is incorrect. It assumes a bigger caliber is always better. Not so. Better to say," They broke the mold".
