No. I'd give him a tax rebate for all the years he was working and paying tax before he hit 'hard times.'
Why - what's his gross income per year?
If it's higher than mine then by all means tax the fellow.
No, but Republicans historically have.
No. He should be arrested for failure to report income. After he gets out of prison, only then should his taxes be raised.
If your income is as you cite, you pay no personal taxes. This is on the cigarettes which you chose to buy and will hasten your death.

What is Obama doing Alex? +5

Obama TRIPLED federal excise tax on cigarettes. As a portion of your income if you smoke, that would be 0.1% tax hike. For a guy who eats from trash and has no other expenses than cigarettes, that's tax hike from 50% to 70%. Liberals want SCIMP for disadvataged children, but want a homeless guy to pay for that (!)
by Alexander on November 9th, 2009
Got it! There's a lot of world pressure now to somehow ban cigarettes or tax them off the market. We have the same problem in the UK and throughout Europe. A Doctor once told me that some types of people in this world need the relaxating effect of a smoke, and he was one of them! To deny certain highly stressed out people of cigarettes causes more harm through mental and emotional problems than the risk of cancer. He knows because he has dealt with people who have been made to feel guilty of smoking. They then forced themslves to stop and had mental problems or turned to alcohol.

For a doctor to speak in favor of smoking would be the end of his/her career - much like for a climatologist to question globa... sorry, climate change.
The real question is not wheter smoking is good or bad, but why is that the liberals are always so concerened about suffering children but only as long as OPM is involved.

OPM ?
by NoWhereMan on November 10th, 2009
Other People's Money - OPM is a common term nowadays. Much too common I'd say.
by Alexander on November 10th, 2009
Mmmmmm? I suppose if OPM gained through tax is’nt spent on suffering children then where does the money come from? Charity can perhaps only do so much for them.
Despite a hike in tobacco tax, in a strange kind of way, our homeless guy might still benefit from this tax increase through State Aid Benefits, whether it’s free medical care or through dollar benefits. After all, all such Benefits, whatever there form, come though tax - which is in fact OPM.

A quote attributed to Margaret Thatcher goes along the lines of
"The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]."
or
"Eventually, Socialists run out of other peoples' money [to spend]."
Margaret Thatcher, in a TV interview for Thames TV This Week [[1]]on Feb. 5, 1976, Prime Minister Thatcher said, "...and Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They [socialists] always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them."
by Alexander on November 10th, 2009
I must admit I didn't like Thatcher. To me she was like a character from a Dickensian Novel. Or maybe Elizabeth the 1st. Who allegedly said of the poor? “If they can't afford to eat bread. Let them eat cake." Yet I agree with your sentiments re - Socialists running out of other people’s money. Perhaps a finer balance needs to be struck. But by who and how?
