I notify the AB Admins, so it can be quickly ignored.

I warn EVERYBODY in the form of a question and open letter to the community so that staff can delete the question as nonsense because it "wasn't clear". I expect to be giving staff that pleasure again soon. +5

I keep seeing people making comments but nobody says who. Now I realize that you cannot come right out and say the name, but a lot of people have a general idea as to who and what is going on. I on the other hand am clueless and do not wish to be scammed. Can I a least get an obscure hint?

There are many Scammers on AB or at least people using more than one Sockpuppet account. That to me is scamming because it is cheating people with their kindness and emotions.

That hurts much more than financial loss.

I do not report them I am not AB police and I only discuss it with one AB friend when names are mentioned. Other than that it is better to talk in the third person unless you can see that a friend is deeply involved and going to get hurt. Then I would probably try to let them know in the kindest way I could.

You mean a phony/fake/liar/con artist? I would report it to AB staff and let them deal with it. Unless you are in email contact with your friends(in which case what you say is privileged and private and no one on AB will know) you can't point fingers at anyone on AB and make accusations. :)

A scammer, i am not sure what you mean, you mean like a person that is trying to scam someone for money or something? If this were the case i would Speak up and warn my friends of course, and if i knew this was the case for sure, i would also flag all posts that are related to this. I don't think i have seen anything though like what your describing, maybe i am misunderstanding you..

I would hope I would have sense enough to know that if someone asks you for something on the internet, whatever the sob story is, that it is more likely than not, a scam. +4

I haven't been here long & so far I don't think I've been scammed. I only have a few friends, so I think I'd email the administrators.

Icy my friends from autismnetwork were shocked by my ability to pick up a scam. I would tell all my friends. LOL that is why there are sites I will not log on.

    ILoveMySteaks ... is thinking.

Scammer? How do people scam you on AB? With ideas and jokes and stupid questions or something? I can't imagine anyone would ever actually send money to anyone, ever, on a website, no matter what the sob story or post!

    Caveat lector, I always say!

    Bloed... on stand-by

I backed off. I started to feel that there was something wrong quite soon, but couldn't put my finger on it. With the whole flight-comment thread my gut feeling got bigger and bigger. I searched for inconsistencies to find out for myself what I thought about it. Still the whole thing (to a certain point!) could have been true and I hate pointing my finger at someone who is possibly in a lot of pain, and stir many things up. I also felt that this was not up to me to do so, I am not in the first 'circle of AB friends' around that person.
I did notice some subtle questions placed by people who I thought were also suspecting something. So basically, I took my distance and tried not to interfere.
I'm kinda shocked by the whole thing, not that this happens as there are many frauds on the net, it's nothing new. But it proves again how easy some people play with other people's feelings. I think in the past few days a lot of hurt has been done. Which is really sad. At the same time it's beautiful to see so many people so supportive to someone they actually do not know.
What I did find out is that even though I tried to take my distance, it still affects me. I woke up with the thing in my head for two days. This kind of manipulation is something that really hits a spot in me, as in the past I have learned first hand how cruel some people can be with manupilation. Maybe that's why I did answer your question, even though I think it's the best to let it be now.

  • Great question Icy. I could not sit back and watch some scammer take advantage of my friends on AB. I would try to warn them and if it justified the action, I would write to administrators and hope they would pay attention.

You mean like the whole Dreanna (I think that was the name on the profile) fiasco? (Don't know the whole story as I was a newbie and a rare user in AB).
    .
I would let AB admin. know my thoughts about it.
