I hope that technology will always strive to take the fight away; make it as unfair to the enemy as possibly so that he's doing all the attempted fighting and our guy is never breaking a sweat. All that said, it may never happen. I was a kid when missiles came into their own. I was about 10 years old at an old Armed Forces Day Open House. I ask the pilot of a Navy F-4B Phantom where were the cannons? He laughed and told me that the age of the dogfight was over. That surely proved to be wrong and It's my guess that when we the day comes we'll war in space, the dogfight will still be with us. Thanks for posting a most interesting question!
  • The pinnacle of pre-electronics fighters is the F-86 Sabre in my eyes. For more modern planes, I'd have to go with the Raptor because of its technological edges over 4th generation fighters.
