    it's not so much that they're black or dark, I think, as much as it is that they're the opposite of white or light.

    That might not make sense.

    Yes, light can't escape from black holes, so no light would come from the black hole to your eye, so it would appear black.

    I think black holes are dark since no light can go through. Either that or the light gets sucked in.
