Are the USA now going to have a National Health Service?

As an outsider looking in I do not understand why the opposition. What are the issues?

It will require all of us who chose not to have insurance, to get insurance. So more money will go into the system and the insurance companies will get more and the people who will work the program will get more. The doctors will not get more.

Part of the proposal is supposed to be a national health option for people who either ;can not afford the insurance premiums their company contracted for with the insurance companies; is a self employed person who can not afford insurance otherwise; people who can not get insurance; or people who would just rather have that option. It is my hope that this option will be used to segue into national health care down the road, but the pessimist in me believes this will be the first part of the proposal that gets cut.

I hope that all can benefit as we do here. I know much has been made of our NHS but the criticisms made as propaganda by skeptics there is certainly not the opinion of the majority here. We love what the NHS stands for.

I hope one day we can have such a program. The bill that is passing now isn't it, but it is a beginning.

It is hard to say, in my opnion probably not the first time around. The bill will probably go back to the house, get altered then get passed by the senate.

the bill being passed would probably be a good thing. I am unsure of everything the bill entails, but from what I have read it seems beneficial. Some of these things are written below.

"The bill includes a new government-run insurance plan (a.k.a a public option) to compete with the private companies, a requirement that all Americans have health insurance, a ban on denying coverage because of a pre-existing condition and, to pay for it all, a surtax on individuals with incomes above $500,000."

It can be a good thing if the house members have an ace up their sleeve in anticipation of this, to make it a better bill and get it passed. Or it can be a bill killer, then it will be back to the drawing board. which a lot of people think would be a good thing. i am still undecided.
