  • I live in NY. I don't recall the incident at all. Would you have a link to the story?.
  • Wow! That is crazy! This is the first that I have heard of it..
  • No, though they have a way of covering up anti muslim stuff. Crazy arabs. :)
  • It looks to me like it was fully covered. There is a lot more important things going on than a man killing his wife. That happens every day in every major city. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=Muslim+man+beheads+wife+in+New+York&fr=yfp-t-101&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8
  • Yes, because it was covered like 5,000 times per day when it happened, and I don't live anywhere near New York.
  • I'm finding a lot of reports about it now that you've brought it up, but no! I never heard about that or saw any reports. Wtf? Update: here's a couple links about it. All pretty similar. http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2009Feb17/0,4670,WifeBeheaded,00.html http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/02/18/ny.beheading/index.html http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4808913n
  • I saw some coverage of it via Yahoo mail/news. The most ironic part of the story was that they had created their own TV station to help dispel the stereotypes about their beliefs/religion. I'd say, off the top of my head, that the stereotypical shoe fit hubby.
  • That is because the mainstream media gives very little coverage to minority committed crimes. How many of you heard of the Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom murders?
  • "At the Muslim Community Center in Amherst, New York, more than 200 gathered for early morning prayers and a funeral service for Ms. Hassan, who had been active at the center’s mosque. “She was more of a practicing Muslim” than her husband, said attendee Hassan Shibly to the New York Times, who worked for the television station with the Hassans prior to enrolling in law school. “She really believed in the cause, wanting to present her faith in an accurate light and now people are blaming her very faith for her death.”" " Marcia Pappas, New York State president of the National Organization for Women opined "This was apparently a terroristic version of honor killing, a murder rooted in cultural notions about women’s subordination to men."[19] Pappas' superior, Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization of Women, stated: Despite these patterns that are typical of spouse abuse and murder (only the manner of killing was atypical), most of the conservative commentary has focused not on male violence toward women (surprise, surprise), nor on the importance of protecting women who have separated from a violent relationship (another surprise) but has focused instead on attacking the Muslim community. Although the crime was quickly decried by Muslim groups, many talk shows and blogs used the horror of Muzzammil's act to indict an entire community -- in a way that they would never have accused the entire Christian religion because a Methodist man murdered his estranged wife in a horrible way. Three weeks ago, a Chinese graduate student at Virginia Tech cut off a female friend's head with a knife. Not a single news outlet referred to his religion." • Yeah...and it was covered pretty extensively on all the internet news sites for days. It was front page on CNN for two days as I recall. Look - if you want news then turn off your TV & radio and use the internet. I do it every day for work - and it far superior to cable or broadcast outlets in every way.
  • Because it would make them look racist if they report anything about minority crime. Only white murderers make the news.
