Ethernet is by far the most commonly used LAN technology.
By far the most common LAN technology is Ethernet, using UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol). Like all technology, Ethernet has evolved from physically using coaxial cable to much easier to use Twisted Pair cable similar to telephone wire. The term Ethernet refers to how the signals are transmitted over the cable used. TCP/IP refers to how the data itself is organized and managed.
Many other Local Area Network technology's have been used in the past but most have fallen out of use due to the speed, ease of use, and flexibility of Ethernet over UTP.

For me is a Token Ring- Based on the token passing method developed by IBM. Token Ring controls the medium by passing a control frame (token) from one device to the next. Only the computer possessing the token may transmit. Its topology is a logical ring but usually a physical star.
