I would pull him aside later and let him know you do not appreciate that kind of humor. Pulling him aside at least lets him keep his dignity.
Tell them that's as funny as their manners and ask what raised them..
Repeat back what they said, look confused, and ask them to explain why it was so funny. That will shut them up faster than anything because the focus will then be on them.
This kind of "joke" is often thinly-disguised hostility. I might have been tempted to call the person on it in front of others, but it's better to talk to him/her privately and ask the person if there's an issue with you that needs to be discussed, because what s/he did was WAY out of line.
