My wife's cousin gave a birthday banquet to celebrate his mother's 100th birthday. But his mother was too frail to attend. Have you ever attended a party where the guest of honor did not show up?

Yes, once. But it was for a co-worker. We wanted to give her a surprise party. Well, we kept it such a secret that nobody told her and she didn't attend. We waited and waited. Finally someone said "Did anyone tell her?" Everyone looked around and shrugged. They probably felt someone else had done it. Then when someone went to get her, she had already gone home.

I'm sure Mom was there in spirit. We celebrate Jesus' birthday every year, his spirit is always here.

No, that sounds like the person giving the party was in it for the glory for him/herself.
