the id is the tremendous arousal inside the flesh for carnal pleasures and other instinctive goadings like aggression and supremacy-feeling, against which the moderating and mediating agency of mind is the ego allowing so much of the id's pleasures as is permissible by the society's norms, while either repressing the rest or redirecting it through some other neutralising activities.
That which is repressed may resurface in dreams in the form of fantasy of pleasure.
